Child Services Coordinator
The mission of the Child Service Coordinator is to ensure that Indian children with special needs have maximum opportunity to reach their developmental potential by providing assistance with access to health care and social services.

Location:
Cherokee Indian Hospital

Scope of Work: The Child Service Coordinator provides case management and advocacy for children under the age of three, that have or are at risk for developmental delays and special needs. As a case manager the CSC prevents children from becoming lost to follow through, via the consultation and referral process, between multiple health disciplines. As an advocate, the CSC serves as the accommodating link
between the client/family and the professional system.

2003 Accomplishments:

  • Completed 24 hours of continuing education in Domestic Violence and Child Abuse prevention.
  • Provided consultative and direct services to over 600 children and their families.
  • Provided vision screenings with MTI Photoscreener for Cherokee child care centers.
  • Developed close collaborative relationship with the new Cherokee Pediatric program at CIH.
  • Participated in the Qualla Boundary Child Protection Team, Cherokee Children’s Coalition, and the Head Start Health Advisory Committee.
  • Provided Developmental screenings for 42 children.
  • Provided assistance with case management for the Cherokee Children’s Dental program.
  • Provided Community Health services to non CSC clients.
