Scope of work: The Children’s Dental
Program provides dental education to children, teachers
and parents in child care centers and schools on the Qualla
Boundary. Coordinates dental exams and treatment with the
Cherokee Dental Clinic. Provides follow up information to
parents after exams and screenings. Provides sealants. Available
to civic organizations and assures a dental component in
health fairs, parents meetings and other health related
activities held in the community.

2003 Accomplishments:
- 1523 children in Children’s Dental Program
- 1440 children received dental education.
- 248 adults received dental education.
- 229 children received a dental screening
- 52 children received a dental exam
- 94% of children received a dental exam at Headstart
- 79% of children at Headstart had dental treatment completed.

- Dental presentations done at Cherokee Elem. to K, 1st,
2nd and 4th.
- Sealant screenings were done on 52 1st graders and 28
6th graders at Cherokee Elementary School.
- Follow up letters sent to parents after sealant screenings.
- 90 children received an orthodontic screening
- 67 children were eligible for orthodontic treatment.
- Attended Infection Control/Blood Borne Pathogens CE
- CPR Current.
- Attended Medical Emergencies in the Dental Office CE
