Supplemental Health Insurance Program
The mission of the Supplemental Health Insurance Program is to ensure all Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians members receive maximum benefits by providing access to funding sources while increasing enrollment.

Scope of Work: The Supplemental Health Insurance Program functions as a primary liaison office for EBCI members in five county areas. They work in conjunction with multiple service providing agencies on the Qualla Boundary and in North Carolina state agencies. They are involved in training to EBCI member in usage of Medicare benefits and Social Security.

2003 Accomplishments:

  • Achieved first bi-annual disability clinic
  • Hired one new staff person
  • One staff received certification as Case Manager
  • Participated in three Community Activities events
  • Have Veterans Representative assist with VA matters on weekly basis at SHIP
  • Three staff completed training is selective field
  • One staff completed soft training in computers/three completed half their training
  • SHIP collaborates with EBCI Programs and other State Programs to serve Members
