Women's Wellness
The mission of the CWWC is to provide quality health, wellness, and disease prevention services to eligible women emphasizing breast and cervical cancer screening and early detection.

Scope of Work: Women's Wellness provides a wide variety of services to EBCI women including Breast and Cervical Cancer Screenings, Contraceptive Services, Well Woman Gynecology, STD Education, Screening and Treatment, Hormone Replacement Therapy, Menstrual Irregularity Regulation, Pregnancy Determination, Pre-conception Counseling, Baseline Infertility Work-up, Osteoporosis Risk Assessment, HIV Education Counseling, Management of common and uncomplicated common health conditions, Screening Mammography, and colposcopy.

2003 Accomplishments:

  • Awarded continued NCBCCP contract for $37,000.00 to provide Breast and Cervical cancer Screening Services:(Contracted to screen 215 NC BCCP eligible women, we have already met 91% of the goal at 196)
  • Awarded a donation from Harrah's in the amount of $3000.00 to purchase marketing materials for breast cancer awareness
  • Selected to participate in the NC Wise Woman Program and will receive $34,000.00 to $37,000.00 in grant funding to implement a cardiovascular disease screening and prevention program.

2003 Accomplishments (cont)

  • Continued Mobile Mammography (total of 166 Jan. '03 thru July '03)
  • Collaborated with many other tribal, state, and community programs to provide services
  • NC Breast and Cervical Cancer Medicaid program: (A total of 3 women have received funding to pay for cancer treatment services, this reduces the financial burden for the CIHA)
  • Serve as resource for Women's Health Issues for other providers and community organizations
  • Provide community educational sessions
  • Data Management system interfaced with Cherokee Indian Hospital RPMS to update hospital records
  • Receive referrals from many outside health care sources for case management
  • Collaborate with many outside referral sources for continued care of our patients
  • Started A Weight Management Program for women
  • Began STD Treatment at CWWC
    • Provide medication at visit for patient and partner to ensure compliance and follow up
  • Had record breaking cervical cancer screening in July; Total of 102
  • Average 315 patient contacts per month
  • Approached to participate in research project funded by CDC, if approved it will save thousands of dollars for the CIHA and will provide CWWC with valuable information about HPV virus
  • Provide comphrensive health care including; Depression; HTN; DM; Dyslipidemias;Thyroid disorders; Obesity; Smoking Cessation; Immunizations
  • Provides monthly Colposcopy examinations for follow up of abnormal cervical cancer screenings
  • Participate in and distribute free Multi-Vitamins for women of child bearing age from the March of Dimes and the Fullerton Genetics Center
  • Outreach worker continues to provide support and prosthesis to breast cancer patients
  • Provides the Cherokee Cancer Support Group meeting space for monthly meetings
